So I have decided to write a blog to keep track of my Invisalign journey. For those of you who may not know what Invisalign is or may he interested in getting it done yourself, hopefully this blog will let you know what you're in for! So....
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is essentially clear braces. It's a more discreet way of straightening your teeth compared to the traditional train track braces. It works with removable, see-through aligners.
How does it work?
You receive lots of different trays which are completely customised for your teeth and the end result. You change the trays every two weeks which gradually change in order to help your teeth move.
How long does it take?
This all depends on how much your teeth need to move. Roughly as it stands at the moment, mine are estimated to be finished within a year, which I was pretty impressed by as I thought it would take much longer. I got given a more accurate time this week which was 40 weeks for my top set and 36 for my bottom.
How much does it cost?
This is the part that makes me feel a little bit sick. It is costing me just over £3000! I know right! It varies ever so slightly I believe depending on how much work you teeth need but it's a fairly standard price. This is with a £600 discount as my little sister has already had Invisalign and got a refer a friend discount. I am trying to see it as a life long investment.
Where offers Invisalign?
I am currently undergoing the treatment with the Smile Boutique in Peterborough. I know a few clinics offer it locally but because my sister had been there and I felt comfortable with the dentist. I think that's really important to feel comfortable with someone who is having to get that close to your face!
Why am I doing it?
For as long as I can remember I have always hated my teeth! It's one of them things where people may say "Oh but your teeth are fine!" but you know what makes you feel comfortable and how you feel in yourself. As a kid I used to try and photoshop my teeth because I hated them that much! My sisters have really great teeth from having braces as a kid and not having them myself is something I will always regret. And so will my bank balance! I was offered them on the NHS over 10 years ago but I didn't want them on for my prom night so turned them down! Looking back now I realise how stupid that sounds for the sake of one night! So if you're ever offered braces, take them! Your bank account will be eternally grateful when you have a mortgage to pay later in life! Also I know that one day I would like to get married and I want to look back on pictures and not think "Yuck, my teeth!"
I'm going to post as much as I can about my journey and post pictures so that I can keep track of how they are changing. I've read a couple of horror stories so I am keen to see for myself how it's all going to pan out! Watch this space.....
