Yesterday I received my first set of trays for Invisalign. The dentist showed me how to put them in and how to take them out and that was it, they'll see me in 2 weeks to fit the attachments. I got given one set of trays and two cases. One is to store the trays in when I take them out and the other will be for my next set, which I don't have yet. The trays need cleaning every so often with Retainer Brite which are just little dissolvable tablets and then you have to clean them with your toothbrush every time after eating too.

For the first hour they felt fine, I mean I could tell I had them on, they felt quite tight but other than that no issue. Then the pain started. It was like tooth ache but in every single tooth! Taking the trays out and biting down on a Wispa Gold in particular was very painful - I'll stick to soup next time. Putting my bottom set in seems to hurt the most, they feel super tight but the pain does fade after about 20 minutes. I have a pretty low pain threshold though so I am sure I will eventually man up and get used to it. It's only supposed to last a few days for each new tray anyway.

You can't wear the trays when you eat or drink, apart from water.  When you've eaten you have to clean and floss your teeth, as you are more prone to fillings etc and put the trays back in. They must be in for at least 22 hours a day. So although that's kind of annoying, I am hoping it'll make me snack less because of the effort that would have to come after eating even just a biscuit! So hopefully I get a summer body out of this too! Although day 2 hasn't gone so well and come 3:30pm at work I was craving sugar, sugar and more sugar - cue a miniature Wispa, but this time I was more careful. Maybe I should change the name of this blog to Wispaholics Annoymous! I clearly have a problem.

I wasn't particularly looking forward to having to clean and floss my teeth after eating at work in the main toilets. Embarrassing. However a lady at work is letting me have the key to the disabled toilets so I can brush them in private and keep my spit to myself :)

I was told I may have a lisp for a few days while my mouth gets used to the trays but I don't seem too bad at the moment, however Lee disagrees! You also salivate more, nice. What a catch I am going to be for the next 9 months! I also seem to feel way more thirsty! Today I drank 2 litres of water in as many hours!

I feel like my jaw is protruding a little bit and am very aware that it doesn't feel normal but I assume that over time my mouth will adjust to it. I have a strong urge to just want to bite down really hard on my trays to relieve the tension in my jaw. You can get little chewies my sister told me that look like tiny woggles that can help with this, so I am going to look to get some soon before I break my trays!

In 2 weeks I will have the attachments put on which I am pretty sure are going to cause me alot of jip but we will have to wait and see. For now there is probably another Wispa in the cupboard somewhere calling my name.....

Definitely have a problem.
