Today was "A" day and no I'm not talking about PLL (Pretty Little Liars.) I mean attachment day. The day I have been dreading ever since I committed to having Invisalign.
The picture below is a little comparison of what they look like so far. The left was taken on Day 1 of Invisalign and the right was Day 12. I can see a small change already in that tooth. The one I hate and I am sure you can see why. So that's nice to see. I am now day 15.
My dentist is not much of a talker. He asked me how I had been getting on and I told him that I was pleased and felt I could notice a change already but that I did have some sensitivity in one tooth in particular and that I was worried it was a filling. Thankfully all is ok, it's not a filling and he said he will keep an eye on it. Other than that, there wasn't much more conversation to tell me what was coming.
He proceeded to put on all of my millions of attachments. I'm not exaggerating I literally have loads. 7 on the top and 10 or 11 on the bottom with one more that has to go on at tray 14 I believe.
The following is then what I could make out was happening:
The attachments were put on with like a gel which he then bonded with one of them orange light things like they use for fillings. He then put my new tray (tray 2) on and then bonded again whilst what felt like ripping my head and jaw off by pushing down. He then scraped the tooth and between the tooth and this was honestly like nails on a chalk board! This was then repeated for every attachment, so I did get use to it. Sort of. But the noise and the sensation made my skin crawl.
He then told me that was it and gave me the next 3 sets of trays as well as tray 2 and said he would see me in 8 weeks. All over and done with in 30 minutes!
I am so glad I didn't have to have my teeth shaved like I had read online and I didn't ask if I ever would have to. I'll just wait and see! My mouth feels so weird and like I have bits of popcorn stuck to my teeth! It looks unsightly, awful, disgusting and I feel like a frickin' monster but I have to keep reminding myself that I am doing this to myself, I asked for it, I'm paying for it and it will be worth it!
Before finishing this post, I took my trays out, ate dinner, cleaned my teeth and put the trays back in and about 6 of my attachments have come off the bottom!! The new trays are pretty tough to get in and out but I didn't expect this an hour and a half after having them on! So looks like I'll be going back sooner than anticipated. I will share a picture of how my attachments look once I get used to them. Not quite so confident with them on yet!
